Our Favorite Upholstery Cleaning Tips

Upholstered furniture adds a lot to the look of any home by making it cozy, warm and welcoming. However, it’s a big investment – recliners, sofas and sectionals can cost thousands of dollars. You’ll want to make sure to protect that investment by keeping your upholstered furniture clean. Here are some of our favorite upholstery cleaning tips that will keep your furniture ready to welcome family and friends all year long. Vacuum Your Upholstered Furniture Regularly Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed at least weekly, and even more often if it gets especially dirty (particularly if you have kids or pets). Be sure to vacuum under the cushions and in the creases in order to pick up all the dirt and debris – you never know what’s hiding in there! Oh, and don’t forget to vacuum the throw pillows, as well! These days, vacuum cleaners come with an assortment of attachments that are perfect for cleaning upholstered furniture, such as upholstery tools (with or without brushes) and crevice tools. Do your furniture a favor and use them on a regular basis when you vacuum.  Check the Information Tag Did you know that most upholstery comes with a “manual”? That’s the little tag attached to the bottom of chairs or the back of sofas. Not only odes that tag contain information about the upholstered item (where it was manufactured, the manufacturer’s name, etc.), but it also has information about the upholstery fabric and its care. Here are some of the symbols you may see on the information tag and what they mean: WS: Use a mild detergent with steam vacuum or dry-cleaning detergent.S: Use a dry cleaner detergent only.X: Use a vacuum only. Do not use water on upholstery as it may stain.W: You can use water or a water-based solution on the upholstery. Blot, Don’t Scrub No matter how careful you are around your upholstered furniture, stains sometimes happen. When they do, make sure you blot them – don’t scrub them. Scrubbing the stains can loosen the upholstery fabric fibers, not to mention the fact that it can push the stain deeper into the fibers. Remember – blot, blot, blot! You may also be tempted to add water to the stain in an attempt to remove it, but don’t.  The goal is to dry out the stain and keep the padding under the upholstery dry. Simply blot it with a dry, absorbent cloth instead.  Get Your Upholstery Professionally Cleaned If your furniture is especially dingy or dirty, or you have stains that just aren’t coming out no matter what you do, it’s time to get your upholstery professional cleaned. What Kind of DIY Carpet Stain Remover Do I Need

whatkinddiystainermover

Carpet stains can be frustrating and unsightly, especially if they are not promptly addressed. Different types of carpet stains require different kinds of carpet stain removers. Choosing the right carpet stain remover can make the difference between a successful and unsuccessful attempt at removing the stain. Types of Carpet Stain Removers When looking for a carpet stain remover, it is essential to consider the type of stain and the type of carpet. Certain carpet types, such as wool or silk, require specialized care and cleaning solutions. Using the wrong type of stain remover on these carpets can cause damage or discoloration. Solvent-Based Cleaners One type of carpet stain remover is a solvent-based cleaner. Solvent-based cleaners work by dissolving the stain and lifting it from the carpet fibers. These cleaners are often used for oily stains, such as grease or makeup. However, they can be harsh and should be used with caution on delicate or natural fiber carpets. Enzyme Cleaners Another type of carpet stain remover is an enzyme cleaner. Enzyme cleaners work by breaking down the organic compounds that cause the stain. These cleaners are effective on pet stains, such as urine or feces. They are also safe to use on most types of carpets, including wool and silk. Oxygen-Based Cleaners A third type of carpet stain remover is an oxygen-based cleaner. Oxygen-based cleaners work by using oxygenated bubbles to lift the stain from the carpet fibers. These cleaners are effective on a variety of stains, including coffee, tea, and red wine. They are also safe to use on most types of carpets, including wool and silk. Choosing a Stain Remover  When choosing a carpet stain remover, it is essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Applying too much of the cleaner or leaving it on for too long can damage the carpet fibers or cause discoloration. It is also important to test the cleaner in an inconspicuous area before applying it to the stain. DIY Spot Cleaning and Professional Carpet Cleaning In addition to using a carpet stain remover, there are also several steps that can be taken to prevent stains from occurring in the first place. Regular vacuuming can help remove dirt and debris that can lead to stains. Using entrance mats can help trap dirt and moisture before it reaches the carpet. Spills should be promptly cleaned up with a clean cloth or paper towel and remember to have your carpets professionally cleaned every 12-18 months to ensure longevity. A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning uses a powerful truck-mounted steam cleaning system to remove tough stains and odors, including gum, tar, rust and pet stains and odors. After cleaning, your carpets are groomed for a “new look” and can be protected with a Dupont Teflon carpet protector. Don’t Live with Ripples in Your Carpet

Discover the Dangers of Carpet Ripples and Why Professional Repair is Essential When it comes to home decor and comfort, carpets have always been a classic choice. They add warmth, softness, and a sense of coziness to any room. However, as much as we love our carpets, they can sometimes develop imperfections that not only affect their appearance but also pose potential dangers. One such issue is the formation of ripples in your carpet. These ripples might seem harmless at first glance, but they can have serious consequences for both your carpet’s lifespan and your safety. In this article, we’ll delve into the reasons why carpet ripples are dangerous, how they can lead to premature wear and tear, and why enlisting the expertise of professionals like A Personal Touch for carpet stretching and repair is the wisest choice. The Hidden Dangers of Carpet Ripples At a glance, those small waves or ripples in your carpet might seem like minor annoyances, but they can actually be hazardous. One of the primary dangers is the risk of trips and falls. As these ripples create uneven surfaces, they can easily catch the feet of unsuspecting individuals, leading to potentially serious accidents, especially for young children and the elderly. Beyond the immediate physical dangers, ripples can also become a haven for dust, dirt, and allergens, impacting indoor air quality and potentially causing health issues. Premature Wear and Tear Carpet ripples not only threaten your safety but also have a detrimental effect on the lifespan of your carpet. These ripples result from the gradual loosening of the carpet’s backing and the separation of the fibers from their secure base. As foot traffic continues to compress the carpet, the uneven tension caused by ripples can lead to faster and more noticeable wear and tear. High-traffic areas, in particular, are prone to fraying and fiber damage, turning what was once a luxurious floor covering into an unsightly eyesore. The Expert Solution: Professional Carpet Stretching and Repair Addressing carpet ripples requires precision and expertise, which is where professionals like A Personal Touch come into play. Attempting to fix ripples yourself could lead to further damage and might not yield the desired results. A professional carpet repair service has the knowledge, tools, and experience to not only remove the ripples but also restore the carpet’s original condition. Carpet stretching is a specialized technique used to eliminate ripples and ensure a smooth, taut surface. Professionals assess the extent of the damage and determine the best approach to re-stretch the carpet back into place. This process involves careful removal of the furniture, loosening and repositioning the carpet, trimming a small piece from an inconspicuous place such as a closet, trimming excess material, and securing the edges tightly. Not only does this instantly enhance the appearance of your carpet, but it also eliminates safety hazards and prevents further wear and tear. Why Choose A Personal Touch for Carpet Repair A Personal Touch is a trusted name in the world of carpet care, and for good reason. With years of experience and a commitment to excellence, their team of professionals understands the intricacies of carpet stretching and repair. By choosing A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning, you’re ensuring that your investment in flooring is safeguarded, your living environment is safer, and your carpet’s aesthetic appeal is fully restored. In conclusion, don’t let carpet ripples become a permanent fixture in your home. Beyond being an eyesore, these ripples can compromise safety, lead to premature wear and tear, and negatively impact indoor air quality. Hiring professionals like A Personal Touch for carpet stretching and repair is the smart way to ensure a beautiful, safe, and durable carpet that adds comfort and style to your living spaces. Say goodbye to ripples and hello to a carpet that’s as good as new. Call now to schedule your appointment or request a quote online. How Upholstery Stains Can Ruin a Room Quickly

The Importance of Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning A beautiful home is a sanctuary of comfort and relaxation, where you can unwind after a long day. However, it takes just one mishap to turn this haven into an eyesore. Upholstery stains, whether caused by a clumsy spill or an energetic pet, have the power to ruin a room’s aesthetic appeal and overall ambiance. In this article, we will explore the reasons why upholstery stains are a significant concern and delve into the benefits of professional carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning services in maintaining a pristine and inviting living space. The Impact of Upholstery Stains Upholstery is an essential component of any room, adding character and charm. It serves as a canvas for expressing personal style through different fabrics and colors. Unfortunately, accidents are inevitable, and when spills or stains mar the upholstery’s surface, they can quickly become the focal point of the room, overshadowing its other appealing aspects. One of the most challenging aspects of dealing with upholstery stains is that they are usually noticeable right away. Whether it’s a splash of wine on the sofa or a coffee spill on the armchair, these blemishes can be incredibly frustrating, especially in rooms where guests frequently gather. Stains send a message of neglect, creating a perception of an untidy and uncaring living space. Furthermore, untreated upholstery stains can seep deep into the fabric, making them more stubborn to remove over time. The longer they remain, the more they become ingrained, leading to discoloration and permanent damage. This deterioration can significantly decrease the lifespan of your furniture, forcing you to invest in replacements prematurely. The Role of Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning When facing upholstery stains, immediate action is essential to minimize their impact. DIY cleaning methods may offer some relief, but they often fall short in truly restoring the fabric to its original glory. This is where professional carpet and upholstery cleaning services shine. 1. Advanced Cleaning Techniques: Reputable professional cleaners like A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaners possess the knowledge and expertise to employ advanced cleaning techniques that are specifically tailored to each type of upholstery fabric. We have access to state-of-the-art equipment and eco-friendly cleaning services, ensuring a deep and effective clean without causing harm to your furniture. 2. Stain Removal Expertise: Different stains require different approaches for effective removal. Professional cleaners are well-versed in identifying the nature of the stain and applying targeted treatments to eliminate them without causing damage to the fabric. 3. Prolonging Upholstery Lifespan: Regular professional cleaning not only helps remove stains but also extends the life of your upholstery. By keeping your furniture clean and well-maintained, you can avoid premature wear and tear, saving you money in the long run. 4. Comprehensive Cleaning Solutions: A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning offers a comprehensive range of services, including both carpet and upholstery cleaning. This holistic approach ensures that your entire living space receives the attention it deserves, leaving your home fresh, clean, and inviting. Upholstery stains can ruin a room quickly, casting a shadow over the entire space’s beauty and comfort. To maintain a pristine and inviting living area, investing in professional carpet and upholstery cleaning services is a smart decision. How to Choose a Good Professional Carpet Cleaner

When it comes to maintaining a clean and healthy home, one essential aspect is keeping your carpets fresh and spotless. However, over time, carpets can accumulate dirt, stains, and allergens that regular vacuuming alone may not be able to remove. That’s when a professional carpet cleaner comes to the rescue. But how do you choose the right one? In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through the essential factors to consider when selecting a good carpet cleaner. Reputation and Experience When it comes to inviting someone into your home to clean your carpets, trust is paramount. Start your search by considering the reputation and experience of the carpet cleaning company. Look for online reviews, testimonials, and ratings to gain insight into their track record. A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning has many positive reviews, customer feedback and a solid reputation so you can expect the highest quality service. Certification and Training A reliable carpet cleaning company should have trained technicians who are certified by recognized industry organizations. Look for certifications from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) or the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI). A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning technicians are IICRC trained, which ensures that our technicians are knowledgeable about the latest cleaning techniques and are equipped to handle various carpet types and situations. Services Offered Consider the range of services offered by the carpet cleaning company. While many companies specialize in steam cleaning or hot water extraction, others may provide additional services such as dry cleaning or carpet “shampooing”. A Personal Touch is not only your local professional carpet cleaner, we also provide carpet repair and carpet restretching services, so it’s important to consider if you also need these services. Cleaning Equipment and Products The quality of cleaning equipment and products used can greatly impact the effectiveness of the cleaning process. A reputable carpet cleaner will invest in professional-grade equipment and use safe and effective cleaning solutions. We use a powerful truck-mounted steam cleaning system to remove tough stains and odors and give your carpets a deep soil carpet cleaning. Pricing and Estimates Obtain detailed pricing information and ask for estimates from multiple carpet cleaning companies. Beware of exceptionally low prices, as they may indicate subpar service or hidden charges. A reliable company will provide a clear breakdown of costs and explain any additional fees for extra services or specific carpet conditions. We are happy to provide you with a no-obligation quote for your carpet cleaning services. Insurance and Guarantees Accidents can happen, even with the most experienced professionals. Ensure that the carpet cleaning company you choose has adequate insurance coverage (we do!). This protects you from liability in case of any damage to your property during the cleaning process. Additionally, inquire about any guarantees or warranties they offer. A reputable company will stand behind their work and be willing to address any issues that may arise, so we proudly offer a 100% money-back guarantee. Availability and Scheduling Consider the availability and scheduling options provided by the carpet cleaning company. Determine whether they can accommodate your preferred date and time for the cleaning appointment. Flexibility and promptness in scheduling demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction. Eco-Friendliness If environmental sustainability is important to you, look for a carpet cleaning company that uses eco-friendly practices. Ask about their cleaning solutions and whether they are biodegradable or non-toxic. Choosing a company that prioritizes eco-consciousness can help reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier environment. Since A Personal Touch uses the steam-method for cleaning your carpets, you don’t need to worry about harsh chemicals and it’s better for the environment.  Customer Service Pay attention to the level of customer service provided by the carpet cleaning company. Are they responsive to your inquiries? Do they provide clear and thorough explanations? Excellent customer service indicates a commitment to ensuring your satisfaction throughout the entire cleaning process. Choosing a good carpet cleaner is essential for maintaining the cleanliness and longevity of your carpets. Consider A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning for your carpet cleaning needs. Don’t Overlook Professionally Cleaning Your Staircases

Staircases are one of the most heavily trafficked areas of your home, and they often receive the most wear and tear. That’s why it’s essential to have your stairs professionally cleaned when you have your carpets cleaned. By doing so, you can ensure that your entire home is clean and healthy, from top to bottom. In this blog, we’ll explore some of the key reasons why you should have your stairs professionally cleaned. Staircases, Dirt and Allergens Staircases are notorious for harboring dirt, dust, and other allergens. Because they’re high-traffic areas, dirt and dust particles get ground into the fibers of your carpet, making it difficult to remove them with regular vacuuming. A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaners has powerful equipment that uses steam to penetrate deep into the fibers of your carpet and remove even the most stubborn dirt and allergens. By having your stairs professionally cleaned, you can breathe easier knowing that your home is free from harmful pollutants. Carpeted Stairs are Hard to Clean Stairs are often more difficult to clean than other areas of your home. Because they have multiple angles and crevices, they require a different approach than other parts of your carpeted floors. A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaners has specialized tools and techniques that allow us to clean every nook and cranny of your staircase thoroughly. This ensures that your stairs are not only clean but also look their best. Extend Staircase Carpet Life Professional carpet cleaning can help extend the life of your staircase carpet. When dirt and grime are allowed to build up in your carpet fibers, they can cause them to break down over time, leading to premature wear and tear. By having your stairs professionally cleaned on a regular basis, you can help prevent this from happening and extend the life of your carpet. Stains on Carpeted Stairs Professional cleaning can also help remove stains and odors from your stairs. Stains can be particularly stubborn on stairs because they’re often caused by spills that can seep deep into the carpet fibers. A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning uses a powerful truck-mounted steam cleaning system that can remove even the toughest stains, leaving your stairs looking and smelling fresh. Staircase Carpet Cleaning  Having your stairs professionally cleaned when you have your carpets cleaned can improve the overall appearance of your home. Stairs are often the first thing people see when they enter your home, and a dirty or stained staircase can make a poor first impression. By having your stairs professionally cleaned, you can ensure that your home looks its best and that you’re proud to show it off to guests. At A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning, in the month of April 2023, we are offering a free cleaning for a staircase when you have your carpets professionally cleaned (after the $180 minimum is met). Tips to keep your furniture and upholstery fresh

The sky is a brilliant blue. The fragrant lilacs and roses are in full bloom. You’ve cleaned the barbecue and restocked your ceramic briquettes or loaded up on conventional charcoal. You’ve worked hard on your yard or patio and want to host a barbecue or friend get-together and have the family over for dinner. It’s truly summer in Colorado! As you celebrate the bounty of our glorious state with gatherings, make sure the inside of your house looks and smells as good as the outside.  Cushion patrol What do you usually do to usher in the freshness? Perhaps you air out the house, vacuum, dust, or give the windows a vinegar rinse? As you vacuum your floors, don’t forget to vacuum your upholstered furniture as well. Loads of odors and dirt can be trapped there. Remove cushions from couches and loveseats. As you do this, take note of which side of the cushion was facing up and what part of the couch or loveseat it occupied. We’ll circle back to this later. If it’s been awhile since you’ve cleaned the couch, have a small trash bag and box handy as you go. Place change, lost jewelry, socks (yes, sometimes that’s where they went!), and toys in the box. Throw away large food debris like popcorn and chips or wrappers in the bag. No shame! It happens to all of us.  Vacuum underneath the cushions thoroughly. Next, vacuum the arms, back and sides of each piece of furniture. If you have a sofa bed, this might be a good time to vacuum the mattress and check to see if used sheets need to be replaced for the next guest. Vacuuming the throw pillows is a great idea too. Once everything is clean, vacuum and replace the cushions, making sure to flip them over and rotate their positions as you go. This will ensure more even furniture wear and tear and prevent the dreaded “sofa divot,” that deep, broken down spot on Uncle Larry’s couch where you can tell he sat for 23 years! If you have upholstered dining room chairs or easy chairs, don’t leave them out. Entertainment room leather chairs can also be a treasure trove of leftover snack crumbs and coins. Now that you’ve done your summer spruce up (it feels good, doesn’t it?), you’ve likely become more acquainted with your upholstered furniture. Did you notice a particular couch or chair was pretty dingy or dull? Did getting your face close to the recliner make you want to gag because of an unpleasant, uh, odor? If so, consider regular professional upholstery cleaning. Professional cleaning can remove layers of dirt and brighten used furniture. Regular upholstery cleaning can also protect your health and safeguard your family from molds, bacteria, fungi, pollen, pollutants and tobacco smoke residue. Professional upholstery cleaning can even extend the life of your furniture and keep it looking newer.  Guest management Everything looks and smells great. Now you’re ready for the party, barbecue or book club. But what happens if Veronica decides to bring her beloved Schnauzer, Bowser, the night you are all supposed to discuss All the Light We Cannot See? Don’t let Bowser lounge on the sofa or the chairs you just cleaned. No. Down boy. Allowing pets on furniture, whether your own or Veronica’s, can further break down and soil your upholstery. The next time you host a barbecue and guests come in from the inevitable afternoon rain, make sure to clean up any spills that happen immediately. Blot the stain with a clean cloth, and if you’re not sure how to treat the particular stain, call A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning. We can give you phone advice that might just save your favorite chair. Click here for more spot removal advice. Certain types of stains like red wine, blood and oil can require professional cleaning for removal.  A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning services Parker, Castle Rock, Englewood, Littleton and more. Bring Joy to Your Home with Professional Upholstery Cleaning

You may sit on your furniture every day and not really think about what it goes through.  What if you were a couch or perhaps an easy chair? Put yourself in its, ah… armrests. Did you imagine, for just one moment, what a day-in-the-life of a couch might be like? Did you picture coffee spills, splattered yoghurt, popcorn showers, or puppy drool? Your upholstery is regularly subject to all of that and worse if you have a busy life and an energetic family.  Summer pool parties, graduations, and birthday celebrations or that first backyard cookout to test grandpa’s secret Texas barbecue sauce: Each event brings friends, family members and a new onslaught of wear and tear to chairs, ottomans and couches. Pick up the Hoover As the first line of defense, we’ll remind you of an old adage: A vacuuming pass makes upholstery last!  Don’t remember that saying? Well, honestly that’s because we just made it up.  But, it is true. Vacuuming your chairs and couches keeps food and grit from being ground into the upholstery fibers. Consider vacuuming weekly or as often as your schedule allows. You can also remove dust and dirt from upholstered surfaces with a soft-bristled brush. When possible, consider turning and rotating your cushions to give the fabric a break as well. Treat that spill When they come from the factory, many upholstered furniture pieces have a protective coating. However, such protectants will only delay spills from being absorbed into your furniture, they don’t mean a spill will bounce off the couch like Elastigirl. If your overexcited teenager or enthusiastic friend flings soda, tea or chili all over your sectional sofa, it’s important to clean it up immediately. Blot the spill gently with a clean, folded towel. The blotting may help you remove the spill completely, if you do it quickly enough. Before spills happen, it’s good to check your furniture manufacturer’s care instructions. Do you need to use a water or a solvent based cleaner for stubborn stains? Many times, a mild cleaning product (test it first) can be applied in a circular motion with a soft brush to remove a spill. Vacuum the area when it is completely dry. If you need help, call your local carpet cleaning professional in Denver, Parker or Littleton. Schedule a steam cleaning Next, consider refreshing your furniture with a deep, professional upholstery cleaning. Truck-mounted steam cleaning can be like a face-lift for your furniture. Regular steam cleaning is just as important as consistent vacuuming. Upholstery cleaning with a truck-mounted steam cleaning system: Helps restore dulled colors to their original luster and resurrects flattened textures.  Can eliminate odors from guests or pets who use couches or loveseats for sleeping. Aids in removing dust, dirt and germs trapped deep in your upholstery fibers. According to Statista.com, consumers spent $114.5 billion on bedding and furniture in 2019! Quite clearly, we invest so much in our homes because they are important to us. How important? In an April 2012 article “Why Our Homes Make Us Happy,” U.S. News and World Report said, “Humans, however, add layers of significance to home and place. Physical places endure while memories and people fade, so homes and neighborhoods become ‘memory machines’ that help us keep alive some of the strongest sources of what has given our lives meaning, well-being, and happiness.” It may seem dramatic to say your upholstery can affect how much you enjoy life, but it seems a clean, well-maintained home can make you, your guests and your loved ones feel better now and far into the future. Reach out to APT A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning’s technicians are thoroughly trained to care for many upholstery varieties.  Whether you live in Denver, Parker and Littleton, we can help you with your professional upholstery cleaning needs. Reach out before birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, or if your house needs a good sprucing up.  We are happy to answer any upholstery cleaning questions, or to give you a free, written estimate without cost or obligation.
