The Importance of Carpet Restretching and Repairs
Battling Ripples, Bunching, and Delamination When it comes to home aesthetics and comfort, few things can rival the warmth and coziness of a well-maintained carpet. However, the passage of time, environmental factors, and everyday wear and tear can lead to issues like carpet ripples, bunching, and delamination. These problems not only mar the beauty of your home but also pose potential hazards. In this article, we will explore the importance of carpet restretching and repairs, as well as the hazards of neglecting these issues, especially in regions prone to high humidity, such as those affected by heavy rains or reliant on swamp coolers during the hot summer months. The Beauty of Carpets Carpets are more than just floor coverings; they are an essential part of our homes. They provide warmth, cushioning, and a welcoming ambiance. Whether you prefer plush, Berber, or a stylish pattern, your carpet reflects your personal style and adds character to your living space. However, maintaining that beauty over time can be a challenge. The Unwanted Guests: Ripples/Bunching and Delamination Carpet issues such as ripples, bunching, and delamination can disrupt the harmony of your living space and even pose dangers. Let’s delve into these problems: 1. Ripples: Carpet ripples occur when the carpet becomes loose and forms unsightly waves or wrinkles. These ripples are not only visually unappealing but can also be a tripping hazard, particularly for children, the elderly and those with mobility issues. Bunched-up carpets, like ripples, create uneven surfaces, making walking treacherous and causing potential injuries. Bunching/ripples often occur when the carpet is not properly stretched during installation or due to environmental factors. 2. Delamination: Delamination is a condition where the carpet’s layers separate, usually due to moisture infiltration. This can lead to a weakened carpet structure, reducing its longevity and durability. The Importance of Carpet Restretching and Repairs Now that we understand the problems, it’s crucial to emphasize the significance of carpet restretching and repairs. Here are a few compelling reasons to address these issues promptly: 1. Safety First: Safety should always be a top priority at home. Eliminating ripples and bunching prevents accidents caused by tripping and falling. Children playing or guests visiting your home will be safer on a well-maintained carpet. 2. Longevity: Regular maintenance, including restretching and repairs, can extend the life of your carpet. By addressing issues promptly, you can avoid the need for costly replacements in the future. 3. Aesthetics: Your home reflects your personality and style. A smooth, well-maintained carpet enhances the visual appeal of your living space, making it more inviting and comfortable. The Role of Humidity in Carpet Woes Humidity plays a significant role in exacerbating carpet problems, especially with Colorado seeing unprecedented rainfall this year or those relying on swamp coolers during hot summer months. Here’s how humidity affects your carpet: 1. Ripple Worsening: High humidity can cause carpet fibers to absorb moisture, leading to expansion. When the humidity level drops, the fibers contract, often causing ripples or waves in the carpet. This cycle can worsen existing ripples or create new ones. 2. Delamination: Excessive humidity can seep into the carpet layers, weakening the adhesive that holds them together. This can result in delamination, where the carpet’s layers separate, leaving you with a compromised and less durable floor covering. Conclusion Your carpet is more than just a floor covering; it’s a vital part of your home’s comfort and aesthetics. Neglecting issues like ripples, bunching, and delamination can lead to safety hazards and diminish the appeal of your living space. Furthermore, with the historic rainfall in Colorado this summer, these problems can be exacerbated, making regular maintenance even more critical. To keep your home safe, beautiful, and comfortable, consider professional carpet restretching and repairs when needed. Don’t let ripples, bunching, or delamination mar the beauty of your living space. Embrace the importance of a well-maintained carpet, and your home will thank you with years of comfort and style. Professional Carpet Cleaning Is Good for Your Health
It’s a brand new year, and many people are making the resolution to get healthier in 2023. Eating right, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep – all of these things can improve your personal health. But have you ever thought about making your home healthy in the new year, as well? Dirty carpets can affect indoor air quality, which in turn can affect the health of our lungs. Here’s how professional carpet cleaning can help you improve the health of your home (and that of you and your family)! Removes Pollutants and Allergens Over time, carpets accumulate a variety of pollutants and allergens, including dust, dirt, pet dander, and mold spores. This is a particular problem in high traffic areas, where the dirt and other contaminants can get ground deep into the carpet fibers and become extremely difficult – if not impossible – to remove by just vacuuming. If you or someone in your family has allergies, asthma, or other lung conditions, these contaminants can make it hard to breathe. Professional carpet cleaning can remove these pollutants and allergens and improve the air quality in your home for you and your loved ones. Eliminates Bacteria and Germs In addition to dust and dirt, bacteria and germs lurk in carpets, especially in areas that get a lot of heavy use. Most professional carpet cleaning services utilize high-temperature water and specialized cleaning solutions to kill these microorganisms, thus helping to prevent the spread of illness. This is especially important during the cold weather months, when we’re spending a lot more time indoors! Reduces the Risk of Pests Pests such as fleas and dust mites are a major health hazard; they thrive in dirty carpets and can cause allergies and other respiratory problems. Fleas can also bite and cause skin irritations. Keeping your pet up-to-date on its flea medication will help, but to rid your carpet of both fleas and dust mites, your best bet is to have it professionally cleaned. Extends the Life of Your Carpet Your carpeting is a major investment in your home – keeping it clean beyond just vacuuming will not only make your home healthier, it will extend the life of your carpet by removing built-up dirt, dust, and grime that can wear down the fibers. You won’t need to replace your carpets as often, saving you a significant amount of money in the long run. Add Professional Carpet Cleaning to Your New Year’s Resolutions Want to have a healthier home in 2023? Our Favorite Upholstery Cleaning Tips
Upholstered furniture adds a lot to the look of any home by making it cozy, warm and welcoming. However, it’s a big investment – recliners, sofas and sectionals can cost thousands of dollars. You’ll want to make sure to protect that investment by keeping your upholstered furniture clean. Here are some of our favorite upholstery cleaning tips that will keep your furniture ready to welcome family and friends all year long. Vacuum Your Upholstered Furniture Regularly Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed at least weekly, and even more often if it gets especially dirty (particularly if you have kids or pets). Be sure to vacuum under the cushions and in the creases in order to pick up all the dirt and debris – you never know what’s hiding in there! Oh, and don’t forget to vacuum the throw pillows, as well! These days, vacuum cleaners come with an assortment of attachments that are perfect for cleaning upholstered furniture, such as upholstery tools (with or without brushes) and crevice tools. Do your furniture a favor and use them on a regular basis when you vacuum. Check the Information Tag Did you know that most upholstery comes with a “manual”? That’s the little tag attached to the bottom of chairs or the back of sofas. Not only odes that tag contain information about the upholstered item (where it was manufactured, the manufacturer’s name, etc.), but it also has information about the upholstery fabric and its care. Here are some of the symbols you may see on the information tag and what they mean: WS: Use a mild detergent with steam vacuum or dry-cleaning detergent. S: Use a dry cleaner detergent only. X: Use a vacuum only. Do not use water on upholstery as it may stain. W: You can use water or a water-based solution on the upholstery. Blot, Don’t Scrub No matter how careful you are around your upholstered furniture, stains sometimes happen. When they do, make sure you blot them – don’t scrub them. Scrubbing the stains can loosen the upholstery fabric fibers, not to mention the fact that it can push the stain deeper into the fibers. Remember – blot, blot, blot! You may also be tempted to add water to the stain in an attempt to remove it, but don’t. The goal is to dry out the stain and keep the padding under the upholstery dry. Simply blot it with a dry, absorbent cloth instead. Get Your Upholstery Professionally Cleaned If your furniture is especially dingy or dirty, or you have stains that just aren’t coming out no matter what you do, it’s time to get your upholstery professional cleaned. In addition to carpet cleaning services, we offer upholstery cleaning services in the Denver metro area. We take extra care with delicate fabrics and trim, and can make your upholstered furniture look like new again. We’ll also apply a fabric protector to further protect your investment. Contact us today to get your upholstered furniture clean and ready to welcome friends and family this holiday season! Remember at A Personal Touch, we don’t cut corners, we clean them!
Getting your home ready to sell
We live in one of the most beautiful states in the U.S. We are fifth in education, were voted the fifth best state to live in and we are tenth in healthcare. Home values continue to rise with the median home price hovering around half a million dollars. Perhaps you’d like to sell right now to capture all of the equity your home has stacked up over the past year. Homes are selling quickly, but how do you ensure the best offers and the quickest sale? Home buyers love clean, well-maintained real-estate. According to Redfin, a nationwide home brokerage site, getting rid of stains and odors in your home is one of the top 11 things you should do to get your home ready for the market. Redfin recommends walking out your front door and reentering your home like a buyer. Use all of your senses when you open your front door. What do you see? Are the floors scuffed? Is the carpet dingy? Do the stairs need some love? What do you smell? Old food odors? Pet urine or mustiness? A buyer will notice these odors even more because they’re not used to them. Getting the carpet cleaned Now that you’re looking at your house with a buyer’s eyes, you may notice the stained carpeting by the dining room table. A Personal Touch can help. We use a powerful truck-mounted steam cleaning system to remove tough stains and odors, including gum, tar, rust and pet stains and odors. After cleaning your carpets are groomed for a “new look” and can be protected with a Dupont Teflon carpet protector. A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaner offers carpet spotters and groomers for sale too so that you can maintain your fresh carpeting right up to the moment of sale. If you find you have unsightly wrinkles in your carpeting, we can restretch it for you. This can save you thousands of dollars in an offered carpet allowance to your buyer. Refinishing the floors If you have hardwood floors, think about getting them refinished. This usually means getting them sanded down to remove the original finish and stain, then restaining them and coating them with sealer. New, shiny floors are of incredible value when selling your home. Examining the bathrooms Looking at your bathrooms with new eyes can be a little uncomfortable. Do you see mold or mildew on the tile? Does the bathroom smell a little… used? We can help. Depending on how long it’s been since your tile grout was last cleaned, what you smell just might be an odor associated with the tiling. Grout can absorb moisture over time, which ultimately results in the accumulation of mold and mildew – the things responsible for that gross smell. You may have tried bleach to eliminate mold or other internet remedies. Have you noticed the results don’t last very long? A Personal Touch can clean your tile and grout in with our proven process for a great price. We’ll apply commercial-grade grout and tile cleaner to your bathroom or kitchen tile areas. Our trained technicians will carefully scrub your tile and grout free of soap scum, water stains, mold and mildew. We’ll apply a top-notch sealant that will keep your grout from accumulating grime in the future. Professionally sealing your tile will make the tile easy to maintain in the future—your little gift to the next owners of your fresh-smelling home. Peeking into the kitchen One of the biggest selling points of a house is the kitchen. Buyers love updated, spacious, well-lit and sparkling kitchens. Do you have one? We can certainly help with the sparkle. The best way to keep your bathrooms and kitchen areas looking and smelling their best is with regular tile maintenance. A Personal Touch can help remove set-in stains, persistent odors, grime, scum and mildew. We also clean marble and granite countertops. If they have scratches or etching from acidic drinks such as orange juice, we have a company that we recommend for restoring them back to their original beauty. Noticing the details Redfin recommends going through your house and making a list of all the little things you would change if you were moving in. The little things count and they don’t have to cost a lot either. Replace all of your lightbulbs, add a mirror here or there to make a small space look bigger, clean and repair your home’s gutters and paint your baseboards. Your potential buyer will love you for all of these things and your home will sell that much faster. Calling the pros At A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning, we can help you get ready for the big sale. We are happy to answer any carpeting questions you might have and give you a free, written estimate without cost or obligation. Banish mold and mildew with regular tile and grout cleaning
Is your bathroom or kitchen a science experiment? When you take a bath or shower can you see blooms of orange around your shower pan or constellations of dark, fuzzy spots on the ceiling? Has your kitchen or another room in your home started to smell musty? Visible signs and tangible smells are good indicators that you have a mold or mildew issue in your home. What’s the difference between mold and mildew? The terms “mold” and “mildew” are often linked together much like “love” and “marriage” (and “horse” and “carriage”). But, which one is which? According to the Environmental Protection Association (EPA), “Mildew refers to certain kinds of mold or fungus. The term mildew is often used generically to refer to mold growth, usually with a flat growth habit. Molds include all species of microscopic fungi that grow in the form of multicellular filaments, called hyphae. Molds can thrive on any organic matter, including clothing, leather, paper, and the ceilings, walls and floors of homes with moisture management problems. Mildew often lives on shower walls, windowsills, and other places where moisture levels are high. There are many species of molds. In unaired places, such as basements, they can produce a strong musty odor.” No matter what kind of mold or mildew you have, the results can be unsightly. Mold and mildew can also cause health problems in at-risk individuals such as people with asthma. Disappointed with at-home grout cleaning? So, yes, the dirty little secret is out. Many of us have showers that don’t get properly ventilated and kitchen backsplashes that need lots of help. What to do? It’s hard to invite someone into your home to witness that mess, right? You may have tried to fix it yourself. Who hasn’t scoured the internet for ways to eliminate mold from drywall, tile or grout? You may have tried bleach to eliminate mold. Perhaps you’ve mixed vinegar and soda or employed borax with great hope? The problem is, scrubbing your shower with an old toothbrush can be gross. It also doesn’t work all that well or the results don’t last. It can be difficult to ask for help. Rest-assured that we’ve seen it all at A Personal Touch. We can clean your tile and grout in Denver with our proven process for a great price. We’ll apply commercial-grade grout and tile cleaner to your bathroom or kitchen tile areas. Regular carpet cleaning is a must for day care centers
Did you know, Colorado has 2,882 preschools and childcare centers? 1 Lots of kids are being cared for outside of their homes every day. If you own or manage a daycare center, you understand it’s even tougher to keep our kids healthy this season when families are facing colds and flu as well as various strains of Covid-19. Our kids need all the help they can get! Steam cleaning for health In our last blog, we covered important ways we can all stay safe indoors this winter. Washing our hands, cleaning surfaces and staying home when we are sick all help to minimize germs. Though our kids and daycare workers are being careful and following guidelines, bacteria, viruses and allergens can end up in daycare center carpets and on upholstered surfaces. Regular cleaning with an effective vacuum cleaner helps keep that load down. A bag vacuum system with a High Efficiency Particulate Air Filtration System works best.2 But vacuuming isn’t enough. Over the years, A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning has helped area day care centers go the extra mile and incorporate monthly steam cleaning into their cleaning protocols. The anecdotal results amazed us: After they began monthly steam carpet cleaning, these centers reported that fewer kids were absent due to illness. Fewer sick little ones resulted in happier, healthier families overall. Healthier children at the centers also equaled more kids attending daycare consistently and paying for that care. Of course, steady attendance positively affected the centers’ bottom lines. Monthly carpet cleaning seemed to pay dividends all the way around, resulting in healthier kids and busier daycare centers. How is this possible? A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning uses a professional, truck-mounted cleaning system. Our cleaning water is heated up to 230oF. Even in the cold winter months, the water used to clean carpets is at least 180oF. According to our industry guidelines, just 125oF kills 98 percent of household germs including colds, flu and bed bugs. Regular steam carpet cleaning also removes common allergens like dust, pollen and mold spores that can impact some kids’ immune systems and make them feel miserable. Your cleaning partner Have questions about regular carpet cleaning? We are standing by to answer them. Colorado State Rules and Regulations also recommend keeping your daycare center carpeting in good repair and steam cleaning carpeting after hazardous fluid spills.3 Our technicians can help! Don’t wait, call A Personal Touch for a consultation to see how regular carpet cleaning and maintenance can help your center thrive and keep kids at your daycare facility safer. Our service area encompasses a wide swath of neighborhoods including Denver, Castle Rock, Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Sedalia and Jefferson County. Why You Should Hire a Professional to Clean Your Tile Grout
On the surface, tile grout cleaning seems like a feasible DIY project. However, when you consider the time and expense involved, as well as the risk in causing permanent damage to bathroom walls and backsplashes, the smart play is to hire a professional like A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning. Tile Grout Cleaning – Overview The difficulty associated with tile grout cleaning is two-fold. For one, the places in your home where tile grout is found, i.e. the kitchen and bathroom, are high-use areas. Here, tile grout is constantly exposed to water, soap, dirt, and foot traffic (the bathroom), as well as water combined with food splatter (the kitchen). Secondly, it is notoriously difficult to achieve full clean tile grout with traditional cleaning supplies, given the nature of the grout itself and the fact that long-term discolorations and stains become entrenched and virtually impossible to remove. Tile Grout Cleaning – The Solution When you hire a Denver-area professional cleaning company like A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning, you benefit from decades of collective experience. This is important from a process standpoint, in that we have developed a tried and tested process to make our clients’ tile grout look brand-new again. Our experience is also vital in terms of the choice of cleaning supplies, some of which can be harmful if applied by an untrained person. Bring us on board and we’ll get started straight away by applying a top-quality commercial-grade grout and tile cleaner proven to remove even the most ground-in dirt, soap scum, and grime. Depending on how long it’s been since your tile grout was last cleaned, you may have also detected an unpleasant odor associated with the tiling. This is the product of the grout absorbing moisture over time, which ultimately results in the accumulation of mold and mildew – the things responsible for the bad smell. This fungi is not something you want in your home, for aesthetic as well as health reasons – but with our first-class cleaning services, you can expect the complete removal of mold and mildew, along with any associated stains. Our technicians don’t quit until your tile grouting has been thoroughly scrubbed and freed from any and all dirt, mold, and soap scum. Once we’re satisfied with the scrubbing portion of the cleaning process, we move on to phase two – the application of a top-rated sealant to the grout lines in your tile. This goes a long way to preventing stains, spills, and detritus from causing any problems in the future, and it’s an essential step towards maintaining the tile and the tile grout’s original color. Rest assured that whatever the level of cleaning required to make your tile grout shine again, we take great care to not damage the grout or surrounding tile in any way. Also, we’ll give you some tips for regular tile maintenance that goes a long way in the quest to keep your tile grout looking great. Many people, especially first-time home buyers, contact A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning and ask, “What is carpet stretching?” We always reply with a concise definition, and explain the many benefits associated with restretching a carpet. Budget-Friendly By utilizing the carpet stretching techniques perfected by our carpet cleaning professionals in Littleton, you’ll see how cost-effective it is to rectify any number of problems. Minor stains, loose strips/corners, burn marks, buckling, holes – you name it, and we have a remedy. Instead of resigning yourself to buying new carpet, take advantage of our competitively priced local carpet restretching service. In short order we can easily refurbish an entire room full of carpet. Longer Life It’s no secret that the better you are about caring for your carpets, the better they’ll look and the longer they’ll last. Along with more well-known cleaning approaches like vacuuming and stain removal, it’s necessary to take prompt action when your carpet begins showing signs of buckling or wrinkling. Contact our nearby carpet repair company and our leading-edge carpet restretching services will restore your carpet to its original flat, wrinkle-free state, thereby helping it last longer. Healthier Environment Your carpet accumulates more dust, dirt, pollen, and other detritus than any other place in your house. The older a carpet gets, and the longer it goes without cleaning, the more potentially harmful particulates it hosts. This leads to unclean air that’s bad for everyone – especially the elderly, people with allergies, and toddlers. Plus, the longer you wait to restretch your carpet, the higher the chance of mold and mildew gaining a foothold. Everyone desires a healthy home environment, and restretching the carpet goes a long way towards achieving this. Prevent Injuries Old, unstretched carpeting develops folds, bubbles, and gaps that create a serious risk of trips and falls. Instead of rolling the dice and risking injury, your carpet should be professionally restretched so that the chances of a mishap are nil. It’s a small price to pay compared to the worst-case scenario. How Can Our Local Carpet Company Help? The general idea of restretching a carpet might seem simple: just pull the carpet taut to remove the wrinkles and tighten any loose ends. However, as with most home repair projects, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Our certified experts use state-of-the-art tools and techniques that help trim away excess carpet and padding. With more than 30 years of experience, we possess as much or more carpet restretching expertise than most companies in the Denver metro area. We deliver excellent results that wouldn’t be attainable by a homeowner trying to restretch carpet himself. We provide our services at a very competitive price, done on your schedule and with the utmost professionalism. Have Your Carpet Restretched Today It costs a good deal of money to replace carpet. That’s why it pays to have your carpet repaired and restretched by professionals. Contact A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning today for answers to the question, “What does it cost to stretch carpet?” and to make an appointment with our veteran team. Remember at A Personal Touch, “We don’t cut corners, we clean them.”
Top 5 Tips for New Home Owners
As a brand new home owner, the appearance of your house is probably a high concern. You’ll want to decorate and add touches that are specific to your family and taste. You’ll also want to keep the appearance of your floors and walls as pristine as possible. One question we often get from new homeowners is “How do I keep my carpets looking new?” Carpets can be beautiful and very comfortable. They also help to keep the heat inside during the winter, adding as further insulation in those rooms. But for any busy family, carpets can get worn easily. Over time, without proper care, carpets can start to look dingy. These tips can help you keep your carpet looking its best throughout its lifespan. Top 5 Tips to Keep Carpets Looking Like New Vacuum Regularly. Regular maintenance is the key to keeping your carpet looking its best. For an area with heavy traffic, vacuum several times per week. If you have a room that people rarely use, you might only need to vacuum once every week or two, just to remove dust. It’s important that you vacuum regularly in high traffic areas. Dust and dirt will become ground in over time, if the carpet isn’t regularly attended to. Purchase a Door Mat. The best way to keep carpets clean is by removing as many of the outside elements as possible. Dirt and dust from outside your home attach to your shoes. Purchasing a simple door mat can help keep these things at bay. Make certain all visitors wipe their feet when they enter and take the mat outside to shake out the dirt every time you vacuum. Take Shoes Off. If you’d really like to keep the look of your carpet, outlaw shoes inside the home. You can leave outside shoes in the doorway so that you’re not tracking dirt throughout the house. Many homeowners keep separate shoes or slippers to wear only inside, or you may prefer socks. Even if you let visitors keep their shoes on, you’re still cutting down on a major amount of the outside dirt that makes its way into your home. Clean Spills Immediately. Any stain left to set will be far more difficult to remove. It’s important that you clean any spill the minute you know it’s there. There are a number of techniques you can use, from purchased stain cleaners to green friendly items. If you can’t remove the stain on your own, a professional cleaning service can help you return your carpet to its best shape. Regular Professional Cleaning. Another part of your maintenance includes a regular cleaning. A professional cleaning can get to the dirt and dust that simple vacuuming can’t reach. In most cases, you can schedule a cleaning for once a year. The process is simple and often you can walk on the carpet again within a day. Looking for Carpet Cleaning Services in Littleton? A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning – Serving Centennial and Castle Rock
Carpet cleaning is big business in Colorado! With March typically being the snowiest month in Colorado, it’s no wonder carpet cleaning services are readily available online, in newspapers, and flyers left on your front door. With all the different cleaning companies in town, how do you go about selecting the right one? A Personal Touch Carpet Cleaning has been serving Colorado for over 30 years and we are one of the original carpet and upholstery cleaning companies in Centennial and Castle Rock. Phil Dreessen, founder of A Personal Touch Carpet cleaning, has seen firsthand the confusion and misconceptions around the carpet cleaning process and carpet care. Common Misconceptions You don’t need to clean your carpets often. This is simply not true! Dirt, dust, pollen and allergens can become trapped in carpet fibers and cause damage that may be wearing out your carpets faster than you want. The more dirt that becomes ground into the carpet fibers, the sooner you may be replacing the carpet entirely. Carpet cleaning only removes dirt. False! Professional carpet cleaning can help remove bacteria, pollen, fungi, smoke and other particulates from your carpet. Common household cleaning chemicals can also get into the carpet fibers and may even lead to breathing issues like allergies or asthma! Dry cleaning methods are all the same. False! There are two types of carpet cleaning: dry cleaning and hot water extraction. Dry cleaning carpets involves using dry foam shampoo applications to the carpet fibers, allowing it to dry and then “vacuuming” it up. This typically leaves a residue on the carpet that can actually attract dirt rather than repel it! The dry chemical method is similar to the dry foam shampoo but a cotton bonnet is placed on the carpet first that absorbs the dirt as it spins around on the carpet. Once the cotton bonnet is full of dirt then a clean bonnet is used to “rub” the dirt out of the carpet. This method can also leave behind a residue and if it’s not vacuumed out properly then it can also attract dirt and dust. Hot water extraction is recommended by Shaw Industries, the world’s largest carpet manufacturer. Hot water extraction means we wash your carpet and then rinse it out with hot water to completely remove all shampoo residue. Questions?
